Today, coach Huy and I will teach you a very highlyrequested tennis skill the one-handed backhand. For this technique, I will also teach you from the easiest step shadow swing. and then hit with tennis balls, also from light to heavy. And now, let’s begin!. And in this onehanded backhand technique, I will also divide it into 5 smaller steps. so that you can easily follow and learn. And now coach Huy will demonstrate all 5 steps once. First, the preparation. Second, racquet back. Third, step in. Fourth, transfer body weight in front and hit. And fifth, follow through. Ok so you have just seen the onehanded backhand technique. Now, Manh will explain in details. For the preparation, the right hand will hold the racquet at grip number 1, left arm holds the throat.
Feet point toward the net and should be shoulder width, or slightly wider. Back straight, knee slightly bend. and the body weight is a little bit in front. The next step is racquet back, turn your hip and shoulder, from being . parallel to the net, now these two are perpendicular. Both hands do not change and body weight is on the left foot. Right heel up. The third step is to step in to get ready to hit. Notice that for the onehander, we can step at an angle. depending on the coming balls. The body weight, we we step in, is still on the left leg. If the body weight is on the right. you’ll lose the momentum at contact. So you should keep the body weight on the left and swing your body into the shot later. The fourth step is to hit. Turn your body and body weight into the ball and hit. The contact point should be in front of the body. The right arm should be fully extended and racquet face is straight.
Not too opened or too closed. The left arm swings back, the body weight is shifted to the right leg. The left heel is up. Last step is the follow through. You can see that the racquet head is pointing straight up. The body weight is now fully in front. Left arm stills stay back and the body is straight up. Those are the 5 steps to hit a onehanded backhand. Now I have a few notices for you. First, the onehander is a difficult, requires a lot of energy and arm strength. Second, we will be hitting both forehand and backhand with the only right arm, so it’s gonna get tired very fast. and easily injured if we do not practice hard enough. The second notice is that you should not flick your wrist when practicing. The nature of this backhand is weaker than the forehand, so if you only use the wrist, or even the arm alone.
The shot is gonna be weak. So, make sure when you practice, try to utilize all body parts so that the shot will have the highest qualities, both power and the technique itself For the next part, coach Huy and I will demonstrate how to practice this shot how to combine all body to hit an accurate shot. Now, let’s get to the next part Now, I will drop the balls for coach Huy to hit. It will show you the way to practice this shot Now, let’s prepare. Next, racquet back. Third, step in. Now, I will drop the ball right here at the contact point, coach Huy will swing. Ok, again Those are the complete stroke. It may be challenging for beginners. So at first, just touch the ball.
When we get used to it, you may follow through a little bit. Let’s divide into 2 parts. Now, coach Huy will just stop at contact point. We will repeat 1520 times just like that then we will do a complete stroke. Now I will drop the balls again. and coach Huy will hit a complete stroke. Turn, step. Hit. Notice that just like the forehand, we will hit from low to high, brushing the ball up. And do not use the arm only. Try to transfer the body weight into the shot to have more power. Notice the left arm, when turning, step, and stop when you hit. OK, stop. When the right arm swings forward. the left arm should also swing backward to counter balance. Ok, again. Prepare, turn, hit. Watch the knee, it will slightly bend and push against the ground and move the body weight up front. If the ball is lower, we can lower the body weight. Ok, again, lower. The racquet will always go lower than the ball.
Before the swing so that we can create topspin on the ball. For the basic lesson, I will not show how to hit hard. You only need to do those steps to have a good fundamental. When you repeat many times. we may then consider increasing power. Now, onto the next part, I will toss the ball to coach Huy. Let’s back down a little bit. Now I will toss, coach Huy will just do the same. Ok, prepare, turn, step in and hit . Ok so coach Huy and I have just demonstrated how to hit an onehanded backhand at the basic level. and in the next videos I will have many other onehanded backhand topics to share with you. such as hitting cross court, down the line, or to increase power or consistency and see you in the next videos.
